Reckoning appears to be my re-awakening to Roleplaying Games

Rate this Entry
I first discovered Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on some random search and watched the first Pax video as a result of it. The longer I watched, the more captivated I became. I was in awe of the fluid combat, expansive world, vast lore-based questing system and vibrant colors of this new world called Amalur. Almost instantly, it struck a nostalgic chord in me.

After I got married, I found I had less and less time to devote to my beloved Everquest character. I was struggling between my new wife and my online social life. Naturally, my wife took precedence and my character had to ultimately be set free.

For a long time, I found solace in short-lived single player RPGs - games that I could take at my own pace and not be drawn into time consuming raids or groups I couldn't break away from. All of these games had perhaps a trace of the adventure or a sliver of variety that I found in Everquest, but none of them kept me wandering their lands like Norrath had.

After a while, I gave up. Resigning to the fact that I will never experience that thrill again in a single player game. I must admit, that fire has been re-kindled by Reckoning. I truly am excited about this game as it promises to be everything I loved about role playing in Everquest.

I'd be curious to hear if anyone else shares the same feelings..

KoA: Reckoning definitely piqued my interest due to the use of color and high fantasy tropes. The fantasy genre in general has gone with a darker grittier feel with games like the Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age. I've had lots of fun with those two franchises but right now I'm been pretty bored with fantasy RPGs so I hope Reckoning can give me a fresh fantasy experience.
