Forums for any given game or guild develop their own personality. I learned long ago to avoid all game forums, this predates even WoW. People are just uninformed, nasty, and downright mean. My philosophy of gameplay was that I purchased the game to play it, not to surf the net to read about it. This philosophy while still mostly true, doesn't apply lately as I am between main games.
I have since discovered that there are a few godlen nuggets of forums out there that manage to avoid most of the mudslinging and flaming. I have discovered that the main Reckoning forums, for the amount of people on it is generally above par when compared to all other game forums out there that I have been looking at for the last 6 months to a year. I have also discovered that things are nicely kept on an even keel over here and I find it quite enjoyable to participate in both forums.
As a counterpoint, I've chased links to other places, GW, SW:TOR, FoH, oh and that HUGE one that Curt was directed too a few months back. Those places gave me the feel of crawling through the sewers; that's not a bad thing if you are looking for an innovative way to enter a dungeon in a game, but in reality its less than desirable personally.
My thanks for providing one of that rare islands in an ocean of flames.
