Thread: In-Game Lore

  1. #11
I still have all my notebooks from EQ, DAOC, EQ2 and a few others. Then they weren't necessary anymore. Still, I like keeping track myself. The good thing about an in-game feature is that I may not always play on the same computer in the same location. In fact, it is highly likely that I'll end up playing some of the time on a laptop. So carrying around notebooks is a bit of a challenge. But I don't want it to be too easy. Also the information the game saves automatically may not be what I need to know.

Oh, and Dash. No problems going off topic a bit. We're not that strict here.

I have all the DAoC, Baldurs Gates, and Wizardry notes and maps and tricks still laying around. Having an in-game Word doc or /note was what I was insinuating. I would rather the game did not auto-notate as the designer and I will have different views about what is important. Saying that, a menu system attached to the notebook to notate a location or time of day via me clicking a button (or checking a box) to go with my hand typed note to myself would be handy. I would have used this exact system to notate when and where I was when I clicked a Lorestone or the level I was when I killed a boss.

As far as the off-topic thingy: Why do we need to alt-tab to access an external wiki page or Wowhead, Alakazam, Curse or whatever when an in-game button should be able to do the same thing? There are games with buttons to click to order a pizza-why not click a button to go to Thottbot et al.? Is there security issues that would arise?

I would really like to see a "Tome of Knowledge" kind of thing in Copernicus but also a Keeper of Knowledge in the form of a massive Library to which we can go to in one or two cities to expand our knowledge and get Research quests for guilds. At higher levels it can be expanded into History-Racial Architecture-Racial Archeology which will be tied to high level craftsmanship(Guilds only)such as Buildings,Weapons and Warfare if the game will support PvP.

I doubt it, games are coming out with in-game browsers. This should be a standard feature going forward IMO.

A lot of MMO companies disable links on their official forums, meaning you have to manually copy and paste the link to get anywhere. I imagine that it's to shield themselves from responsibility if you go ahead and get yourself keylogged. I imagine the in-game browser business would be similar.

This is what I am looking forward to and hoping for the most.
