GET YOUR PVP OUT OF MY PVE!

GET YOUR PVP OUT OF MY PVE!
I am absolutely sick and tired of PvP decisions affecting my PvE gameplay.

Specifically speaking they just made a change in EQ2 where my class, Berserker, has a large number of small self healing capabilities that previously were allowed to *crit* based upon how well my crit stats were. This helped my class immensely and were a LARGE step towards balancing my class where it needed to be.

Due to how annoying this was to other classes during PvP gameplay, they have eliminated the ability for these heals to crit across the entire game.

PvE content is balanced against various classes skills and I can guarantee you that all PvE content was not re-tuned to compensate for this nerf.

If you are reading this, and you design games.... don't do this!!

RE: GET YOUR PVP OUT OF MY PVE!
Wow, that does suck.

I thought it was bad enough that PvP is encroaching more and more on regular PvE ruleset servers... every game has to have two or more factions that are in conflict... every game has to have battlegrounds and arenas and contested zones and whatever else.

I think PvP is a lazy way out. Let the players be there own content for high-end retention, and let them only experience half the game on any one character so they have to replay the whole thing from the other faction. There have to be other, better ways to retain players and create replayability without turning all servers into PvP servers. It does nothing but take away the depth and complexity and turn everything into a revenge-cycle FPS.

Keep the rulesets separate. Then you can balance them separately and never the two shall meet.

RE: GET YOUR PVP OUT OF MY PVE!
In regards to your comment about there being 2 factions at war with each other..
I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I'll probably say it several dozen more times: Quit it with the stupid "two factions at war" crap. PLEASE.
If you must put "two sides at war" in, then at least allow them to group with each other (in EQ2 fashion). Can't say how many times I've been somewhat interested in poking around on a free game, then looked at the setup, saw a "2 faction war" game, and just closed out.

Both very great points! PvP, if it is going to exist in a PvE focused game, needs to be able to be balanced on its own or wild west style (IE I don't care if it isn't balanced, that isn't the point of the game).

EQ2 has vestigial, add on, Johny come lately, WoW want to be, PvP. Taking a PvE nerf based on a niche activity in a game is ridiculous.

PvP is niche. PvP in MMOs is just bad unless it's a PvP oriented MMO. Even then, PvPers get bored after a certain period of time anyway.

Dueling, yes.
PvP, make a server or two with FFA PvP and flat out tell people you could care less about PvP class balance.
Focus on PvE content.

You know what I'm curious about?

If Buuncha would've posted this if they had buffed his class due to PvP instead. Tongue

True enough, but I still think it would be interesting to see what Buuncha has to say in response to my question! Big Grin

My irritation level would probably not be high enough to warrant a physical rant; but make no mistake I absolutely do not agree with any class I play being *buffed* due to PvP issues.

There is no such thing as a short term affect in a MMO when class balance is concerned. Any shifts made in those spectrums can and do cause problems long down the road. A buff made to my class would cause some rippling affect that could cause god knows what chaos 3-12 months down the line.

I stand firmly in my resolve that PvP has ruined more then its fair share of MMO's.
